My favorite new picture.

June 25th, 2008

Mike met that guy, you know that guy, at his convention in Chicago this past weekend.  So he can say that he spent our anniversary with that crazy question mark guy from TV.  I love Mike’s face in this picture… really a face only a wife could love:

To Do List: Tomorrow

June 24th, 2008

-Clean car; I mean do I just have a backseat for junk mail and sweatshirts, really?

-Sort my clothes and separate out those going to Goodwill and those I could still send to people I like, meaning embarrassing stuff to the poor and stuff with tags to friends.

-Sleep in and eat fruit pies, there’s an obvious order to this.

-Watch Moulin Rouge! because I’ve never seen it before and that’s weird.

-Remove all laundry from the dining room table because I can’t get on Mike’s ass for dressing from the table if my crap is on there too.

-Email my sister.

When you watch the floor drop out from under someone…

…do you throw them a line?  Or do you let them fall?

I hate saying that a lot is changing, because everything is alway in a state of flux, and it has to be.  When you know something to be true and someone or something challenges it, do you care or are you tired of caring?  I care and with that same amount of conviction, I don’t care.  I’m so on the fence when it comes to admitting that something affects me.  But how much does it really affect me?  Do I wane interest just not to come off as cold or indifferent?  When people around me are taking up arms about something, how much is my interaction with it genuine?  Not much, really.  Does that make me self-centered or just particular?

I don’t want to step back from a fight, but when it comes to victory I’m not just looking at that battle, I’m looking at my war.  The war extends lifetimes and isn’t contained to just my feelings, or your feelings, it transcends those boundaries.  I can get on my soapbox about something, shout it from the rooftops, but in the end I’m only shouting the needs of so few.  What then is the difference of just shouting my own then?

My Etsyversary!

June 22nd, 2008

is on Tuesday and to celebrate selling on Etsy for one year I am offering free shipping on all of my listings!

I am amazed and proud that I have stuck with this for an entire year, and actually now that I think of it I never doubted that I could do it for a year.  Sure I questioned my choices, relearned things, found out new ways of expressing myself and sometimes, maybe just a little, tiny, wee bit doubted my worth.  But that’s growing and improving and challenging myself to be better.

I thank you for supporting me, encouraging me and believing in me.  You have done so much more than look on as a friend, you have helped me as a person, an artist and as an achiever.  I am forever indebted to your strength, thank you.

Here’s to my next year with Etsy and with you…

My 3rd Anniversary.

June 20th, 2008

Is actually tomorrow, but Mike will be leaving for Chicago in the morning so we celebrated it today. We went out to dinner to my new favorite Italian restaurant, La Dolce Vita. It was great for me but Mike’s order got kind of screwed up and even though I assured him that they wouldn’t spit in his food or put his meat down their pants, he just couldn’t bring himself to send it back so he enjoyed it anyway. It was nice and we had good conversation. He then told me what he got me for our anniversary and lemme tell you, I’m just keeping in my excitement, only because I’m really really tired and… well that’s the only reason.

When he found out that his company wanted him to go to this convention on our anniversary he scored two tickets to that show. We will probably be the oldest people there without chaperoning our own children but I don’t care, I’m wicked excited! And why wouldn’t I be, I’m an Idol fanatic and a David Cook fanatic… just enjoy his music, not really going to stalk him, much.

I’m so happy that we had a great anniversary and I know we’re going to have a 100 more. By the way, we round out our evening with browsing the baby clothes* at Khol’s, it was so cute and fun and we reminded ourselves that not long ago we never even wanted to have kids… how somethings change while others stay the same.

*still not pregnant, but still trying

Fever for you.

June 19th, 2008

I got all of my terrible hair cut off today and got my six month color, it’s darker than usual and I like it.  She put me under the dryer and I think I got a fever while I was under there.  I haven’t felt right since.  Then Mike and I went to In-and-Out Burger and all was right with the world.  It really is all it takes.  I’m definitely not sick any more, but I am feeling funky, like always ready to pass out funky.  Maybe some peanut M&Ms will help.

AFI’s top, my top.

June 17th, 2008

AFI (American Film Institute) announced their “lists” tonight in a very lengthy ceremony that I wish I had the fortitude to watch.  Instead I go for the recaps, right to the website to see what and how they ranked.  Smartly  and concisely they ranked the top ten movies in each classic genre.  Easy.  Here I want to share my favorite movie from each genre.

1. Animation: AFI’s #8- Shrek!  I am actually astounded that it even appears on this list.  Will it stand the test of time?  I know I love it, I know I rode the motion ride three times at Universal Studios two days after I got married and it nearly came close to that high each time!  I even have the Shrek ears to prove my devotion.

2. Romantic Comedies- Again AFI’s #8- Moonstruck- Love this movie, love Cher, love Nicholas Cage, love that famous seen when she slaps him across the face and yells, “Snap out of it!”  The movie was so unassuming and so brilliantly funny at the same time.

3. Western- ?- My vote really is still out on this one, since I have only seen 2 of these picks.  I was really hoping The 3 Amigos was on the list, that would have made it easier.  I did love Shane (#3) though, even though it just tears me up at the end.

4. Sports- Probably one of the hardest categories for me to pick just one, I can watch a movie about an underdog achieving greatness any day.  You would think that I would pick Jerry McGuire (#10) but really the only thing I loved about that movie was Cuba, even then I knew that something was up with that Tom Cruise (weirdo).  And Bull Durham (#5) is an exceptional movie but Kevin Costner’s acting just gets in the way.  For me, I have to go with Rocky (#2).  If you think I’m nuts and all you remember of this movie are the spoofs and the parodies go and watch it again, it’s fresh and humble and beautiful.

5. Mystery- They just don’t make ‘em like they used to.  My pick, #3 Rear Window.  Jimmy Stewart is brilliant and this is Alfred Hitchcock at his apex, exploring the terrifying reality of inner fear and how it is so much more dark than bumps in the night.

6. Fantasy- One of my personal top ten movies appears in this list: Field Of Dreams (#6).  This movie still brings me to tears and the folklore it presents is so woven into my being that nothing compares.  I know!  And how I feel about Kevin Costner…!  I know!  This movie touches those chords in me that nearly nothing else touches, so I forgive him a little, plus his unforgivable Mid-west accent actually helps in this film.

7. Sci-Fi- It is nearly impossible for me to choose my favorite out of these submissions, so instead I will rank my favorites out of AFI’s best: 1. Star Wars- Episode IV: A New Hope (#2) because it pretty much shapes who I am today, thank you very much; 2. Alien (#7) Holy crap, this is a masterpiece and I can watch it a billion times and it never ever gets old for me; 3. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (#8)- Kicks ass, and how can you not be convinced that this is some kind of future? 4. Back To The Future (#10)- Funny and original and a landmark in my very existence. 5. Blade Runner (#6)- Pure genius.

8. Gangster- Without a doubt and without hesitation, Goodfellas (#2)  Much to my amazement and horror, this movie doesn’t disturb me, it moves me and it probably shouldn’t.  I am enamored by it’s richness of character and boldness.  Really, it doesn’t get any better than true crime grit.

9. Courtroom Drama- I’ve got to agree with AFI’s top pick here, To Kill A Mockingbird (#1).  It is so timeless and touching.  The truth of it is in it’s simplicity of the adaptation of the book to screenplay that makes this movie work.  Want to feel right about the world again, watch this movie.

10. Epic- This is also an easy one for me, Ben-Hur (#2) also in my top ten of all time.  Extraordinary and heart-wrenching, the over-acting and embellishment is so solid that this movie will always be at the top because of it’s simple good versus evil, man versus man , man versus himself eternal struggle.

Interesting huh?  Look here for the complete lists.

Sick day.
