July 2nd, 2008

I had the best time last night at the American Idol concert and I had no doubt that I would. The things I expected to be great about it were great and the things that I wasn’t expecting to be great were such sweet surprises. It wasn’t as big as I thought it was going to be and that was nice, we were pretty far away but it was all relative because the place wasn’t massive, no arena or football stadium feel. It was intimate, as intimate as you can get with thousands of people. The performers were set really nicely, and I liked the way each singer got to showcase their style and their talent. All top ten performed and each of them sang 3 songs by themselves, with the exception of the top 4 singing 4 songs a piece.  For me, the highlights were Chikezie, Jason Castro, Brooke White and of course, David Cook, who looked as if he was a pro.  I think the reason why the former stood out for me was because they never sounded that good on the show.  They were phenomenal, and I would buy all of their albums right now.

Oh, and of course David Cook was singing to me at one point, not sure if anyone else knew that or not.

The best part about the night was that I got to spend it with Mike.  Any time I can spend a whole ten hours with him, holding his hand, laughing, enjoying life, being huggy and remembering that we do love spending time together is a success.  At one point in the night I leaned over and I said thank you for this and he leaned back and said that I deserved it.  That was the nicest thing next to “I do” that I have ever heard.  He’s a sweetie and those are the times I know that what we’re doing here together is the right thing to do.

Now, I just have to hold out until October, that’s only 90 days until David Cook releases his first album…

Things to ponder?

More epic?  Going to Disney Land whilst the It’s a Small World ride is closed for renovations but still riding Splash Mountain and being photographed on the tea cups or attending the kick-off concert of American Idol 2008, and witnessing 1 million prepubescent girls scream and never have to say your sorry for joining in and feeling like a kid again?
(Was I biased on that one?)

I’ve never been to Disney Land, but I have been to Disney World twice.  Let me put this in perspective for you though, I haven’t been to Disney World since 1984.  Do you know what was at Disney World in 1984?  A bunch of rides, a quarter of Epcot and certainly nothing very cool when you were smashed into a car with no air conditioning and seven people and you drove all the way to Florida from New Hampshire in the summer.

I am going to relish every moment of my Idol experience this Tuesday evening in Glendale, AZ, David Cook may even be singing to me, you don’t know.  I may even buy a t-shirt, we’ll see.

(This topic was generated from a series of text messages between me and my friend; he’s enjoying the high life in California while I was here at home pondering what to blog about… he stirs up the best topics.)

Something else to ponder: why do I love unabashedly  Ace Ventura Pet Detective but still hate venomously Dumb and Dumber ?  What’s wrong with me?

My 3rd Anniversary.

June 20th, 2008

Is actually tomorrow, but Mike will be leaving for Chicago in the morning so we celebrated it today. We went out to dinner to my new favorite Italian restaurant, La Dolce Vita. It was great for me but Mike’s order got kind of screwed up and even though I assured him that they wouldn’t spit in his food or put his meat down their pants, he just couldn’t bring himself to send it back so he enjoyed it anyway. It was nice and we had good conversation. He then told me what he got me for our anniversary and lemme tell you, I’m just keeping in my excitement, only because I’m really really tired and… well that’s the only reason.

When he found out that his company wanted him to go to this convention on our anniversary he scored two tickets to that show. We will probably be the oldest people there without chaperoning our own children but I don’t care, I’m wicked excited! And why wouldn’t I be, I’m an Idol fanatic and a David Cook fanatic… just enjoy his music, not really going to stalk him, much.

I’m so happy that we had a great anniversary and I know we’re going to have a 100 more. By the way, we round out our evening with browsing the baby clothes* at Khol’s, it was so cute and fun and we reminded ourselves that not long ago we never even wanted to have kids… how somethings change while others stay the same.

Yeah, so that was fun.

I haven’t had a comment in 4 posts.

I may have found something of question in/on my body this morning.

There’s no more American Idol to watch tonight or tomorrow night, for that matter.

I had to cut a bunch of people’s shifts today right after giving a bunch of people shifts today.

My hair is unruly and too long and I don’t have the money to get it cut/I put $40+ worth of gas into my car today, granted I only fill up once a month.

I just feel like complaining.

My latte wasn’t any good this morning and it was so expensive, I need to stop buying them.

That is all.

I would like to pretend that I am not interested in American Idol and that I just watch it as a spectator from the fence, but c’mon.  The other night Mike was even on the edge of his seat in anticipation… maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but he does have a favorite and he wants to see her take it to the end.  I’ve got my sights set on this guy:

David Cook.  Not surprisingly I always go for the rocker or the guy/gal who can actually sing.  I’m not taken with the kid who is all prepared for this, like they’ve been groomed for their first 16 years by Mom and Dad to “become” famous.  I like this guy because he is honestly behind his music and that is pretty hard to get through to people when you are paraded around a stage by Ryan Seacrest and made to sing a bland cross-section of pop music.  But this guy does it and does it well.

Sure I had/have a love affair with Chris Daughtry (4th place runner up on season 5) and I won’t lie, I still do.  I’m a sucker for the lovelorn, raspy voiced, hardened, soulful and honest all-American rocker and I won’t apologize for it.  Like Daughtry, I hope David Cook doesn’t win and I know that sounds crazy… crazy like a fox.  I look at it this way, this guy has it made, he’s got all it takes and he just needed to be seen.  He has done all he can to put himself out there and the venue has done its job.  So many artists come out of Idol and they are almost forced to put out these contrived cookie-cutter albums right out of the gate.  I don’t want that to happen with this guy, it shouldn’t happen with this guy.  He’s probably got original songs coming out of his ears he has just been sitting on waiting for his big break.

Do I want him to win: yes and no.  I would love to see someone with lots of talent and for lack of any better reason, because I dig him, beat out that crappy kid who makes me want to punch Muppets.  The other David, the favorite to win, leaves me empty.  Sure he’s adorable and a prodigy but he’s also annoying and predictable.  I guess if I was 13 or 76 I would prefer him.  But I’m not.  I care about what new music is being made and I want to see this guy make albums, lots of albums.*

*I know, I still refer to them as “albums”, I should really get over that.  As a matter of fact, I downloaded for the first time today 5 tracks from iTunes.  I’m a serious Mac user now.  Obviously they were David Cook tracks.

Need another reason to like this guy: he’s hot.

*I saw this bumper sticker today and I wanted to throw up in my Kia. Gross. You know what you’re telling the world? You’re a whore.

Odd Random Stuff Day:

1. Mark, my awesome AE bff gave my an incredibly great Yankee large jar candle for Christmas (it’s kinda our tradition to do Christmas for each other whenever we have money sometime in January. I already bought his present in December but I don’t want to break tradition.) Anyhow, it is Farm House Apple and it makes… ummm, large jar #47 in my Yankee closet. Don’t tell Mike.

2. I saw a fender bender on the way home from work today.

3. American Idol starts tonight and I would like to be able to tell you that I won’t be watching it.

4. I really really need to get my oil changed.

5. Remember how I brought 4 bags of clothes to the Salvation Army yesterday? I bought three really cute tops from Ann Taylor Loft today… they were on sale and flouncy. Two pre-requisites to anything I buy from now on.

6. Omar teaches me Espanol at work and today’s word of the day was “CAL-CU-LA-DOR-A”, much harder than it looks.

7. A long-lost friend needs my help and I’m not sure I can help him as much as he needs me to, I just hope I can help him even just a little bit. For the sake of his son.

8. I need a hair cut.

9. I must make time for bowling. I miss it so much. I haven’t bowled since my sister came here in October. I was doing really well for a while there and then got sick and then Christmas and all came around, and you know the rest. But I miss it and I miss the time spent with Mike doing something we both love. I need to start up again.

10. I love Charley’s.
